What Does One Say?

Saturday, January 14, 2017

Wow... I honestly thought I was done with even trying to write on my blog anymore. I have missed it but my priorities don't allow for the freedom these days. I so wanted to do techie classes on here with our Raspberry Pi or to give web site tips but that's not happening. Due to different things in life I've stepped away from teaching outside my own kiddos. I was sad to do that. I was also relieved. Isn't that terrible? Feels terrible sometimes. I'm also (trying... really trying... it's a difficult skill to get away from...) getting away from web design.

Lately my time has been spent pretty close to home with family and friends. I'm getting more involved at our church and I have to say that has been hard! I'm so much better being a wallflower then I am amongst people. People make me nervous. Hehehhe... I feel much safer online in a virtual world because it's easier to avoid the messiness of... I dunno... Life? So sad... I need to not let life scare me away from doing life though right? Yah... I'm trying. Always learning is my thing.

So... There ya have it. I have a new to me tablet that I don't have to share with the kids (that's amazing in itself) and its reawakening old hobbies that I used to enjoy. Like blogging! I went to load up some apps and lookie-lookie, there's my old blogging app waving at me. Hmmmmm... We shall see... I've installed it. It does make it a lot easier try and blog again though. Tablets are more portable. Also more distracting.... Hehehe... It'll be a love-hate relationship. I'm sure.

Lost Focus

Tuesday, November 05, 2013

Well hello! I bet you didn't think you would see me here now did you? I didn't think I would see me here either. But here I am! I am amongst the living. If you want to keep up with me more, I suggest you follow my twitter account. Tweets are easy. I am going to be removing the facebook account for this blog soon though. I am just not a facebook fan for many reasons and I am so ready to move on.

Where am I moving to? Ahhh... well... for those who really want to know I am stepping away from the blog world. Not entirely. Not that I was ever "in" the blog world. Hehehee...

Blogging is hard to give up. Once you start it, it's in your blood. I will pop over here every now and again but over the past few months I began to realize what my struggle has been with blogging. Blogging isn't easy and the stand I have made with being as anonymous as possible with blogging only makes it more difficult. It was difficult to find time to blog and to figure out topics to blog. Since I have stepped back I have a LOT more free time. Amazing... what is this free time?

Any way... I should never have been blogging for the reasons I was in the first place. I was using blogging as a place to vent. I was writing for you and I was (mostly) writing for me. Neither of those are really good reasons in my book for what I have been writing. (Not that anything I have written has been monumental or anything...) I was writing to be known. I was writing to fit in.

Guess what I found out....

I AM known! I HAVE a place!

God knows me! I have missed this point. Drastically missed it....

I have now gone back to journalling and it's all between me and God. It is freeing! It is moving.... It is moving me in directions I never expected.

So I will continue to write every now and again. Nothing crazy... nothing exceptional either. Nobody may even be reading this now and I am totally okay with that. (Pst! The numbers don't matter! Stop checking your stats!!!) Hehehee... I do want to cover a few topics though and if I ever get the time, I will. For now... my time is precious and I am holding it close to my family.

Take care!
Have a great week!!

Hmm... I think I need to make a new label: Why I DON'T Blog.... ah well...

Overcoming Mommy Madness

Monday, April 15, 2013

image Have you ever heard of it? I am inflicted with it. I have recently found a small amount of relief for it but have also found that it’s still really easy to give into the disease. Mommy madness (to me) is defined as a mom (me) who gets mad either easily or often. When I PMS I am consumed by mommy madness. It is embarrassing and frustrating to me and my entire family. It is not pretty.

I try to make light of my “Mommy Madness” but trust me, it is nothing to make light of. If you have never experienced it before, yeehaw! I am so excited for you and I encourage you to keep it up! If you have experienced the madness of yelling, crying, apologizing and repeating more than you care to admit… well… can I just offer you a hug? A completely non-judgmental hug. We all have our baggage to deal with and I understand that. Let’s support each other and find ways to help each other around that baggage!

I knew I needed to work on things but a major warning bell for me was when my kids were helping me pick out my sessions for the amazing homeschool conference I was able to attend. Several of the sessions they picked while looking over the list had to do with being overwhelmed. What really impressed me though was how lovingly my own children presented it to me. I was brought to tears because they wanted to help me and realizing that they couldn’t/didn’t fully understand how to help me they prompted me to seek help with someone else. Blew my mind. Broke my heart.

MommyMadnessHow did I start? Before the this conference I had already started by openly discussing my feelings with my kids. I was careful on some details of my feelings because it may have involved their father, grandparents, etc and they didn’t need the gory details. A simple, “Mommy is frustrated with someone else but that gives me no right to take it out on you.” Was all they needed to relate. I soon began to hear my kids say these words! They were recognizing that they were angry but it was at a situation and not the person in front of them. Baby steps….

1. I want MY TIME, to do MY THING, to BE ME. Now, don’t get me wrong “me time” has it’s place but not in the selfish manner I was hunting it down. Constantly hunting for my time made me resent my children. If I resent them, than of course their “interruptions” will make me mad. I seem to struggle with this concept a lot or at least once a year. I need to remember this from my Standing Up Straight post.

(Click the image for full size. Adjust printer settings to landscape for printing on one page.)

2. I need to accept who I am and where I am going. Sounds simple enough but I’ve been fighting my purpose a lot lately. I have chosen a purpose of homeschooling my kids and I need to respect that, not fight it. Homeschooling has been moved up in my priority list. I have always had it pretty high on my list but now it’s even more so. Attending this conference made me see how I’ve let other things take over and how school was creeping into the back seat. I even let myself slide into the idea that I could “send my kids to school” and be okay with that. Wow… I heard the statistic that kids in schools spend 14,000 hours away from there families between kindergarten to high school. I don’t want to miss that much time with my kids. Personally, I didn’t like spending that much time behind a desk as a kid either. Don’t some of us get enough time behind a desk as adults?

3. Sleep! Oh my… I need more sleep! I no longer let myself take my laptop upstairs (except on weekends). I can have my phone and/or tablet but no more laptop. This makes me go to bed earlier and I get more sleep. More sleep equals a much more peaceful momma! This works for me.

4. Family devotions! This is another priority I have let slip away and I am picking it up again and running with it. The kids are enjoying devotions and I am learning a lot about them and myself. Silly to me that I did not do this every day before. Very silly.

image5. Turning around being overwhelmed to productive. I attended a session at the GHC conference that was recommended by my kids. They only chose it for the title and at first I thought it would just be basic information that I already knew but it really made a difference! I will write more about it later though with my letter O post in the #atozchallenge. I see the clock and my phone alarm has gone off, I need to get to bed.

I  hope something in this post may have helped you along the way or at least encouraged you in some way!
I don’t have to a mad mommy.

Everything About Me

Friday, April 05, 2013

imageThis is EVERYTHING about me. Or at least it's everything you may need to know about me? Okay so I can't tell you everything in one post because it would just take to long. How about the highlights of everything? You would probably be happier NOT knowing everything about me anyway. Need to have some mystery about me still... right?

Ultimate Blog Party 2013
I am joining up with the Ultimate Blog Hop to introduce Everything about ME and have a bit of a party on the side! I love a good party and 5 Minutes for Mom’s annual Ultimate Blog Party never lets me down in the fun department. As a matter of fact, if you are reading this post during the week of April 5-12, YOU still have time to join the fun too! There will be twitter parties, prizes and more!

Now for those visiting me for the first time a bit of everything about me... I feel so vain with posts like this! And that thought leads me to wanting to watch How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days. Hmmm...

My name is Mom to most of who I know. That tells you right there that I don’t know many people. Heehee! I guess I should say the name I hear most is ‘Mom’. Usually it is more like, “Mooaaahhhm! I can’t find this… I’m hungry… <insert name here> is LOOKING at me… <insert another name here> isn’t doing <insert task here>” Ae you familiar with any of that? Yah… so my name is Mom.Very few people call me Dee. I love my family and wouldn’t have it any other way!

I started this blog back when we were building our home. It was basically a place where I could journal about the madness that is building and moving. Now my blog is an addiction. That's right... I am addicted to blogging. Are you addicted to blogging? It is SO relaxing to me. Blogging with a deadline stresses me out... but that is why my blog has no deadlines. Usually... Sometimes a bit of recreational stress can be good for a person. Right? (Just nod and smile here... humor me...)

PlantsLet's see... more about me. I am a bit crazy about gardening. I started my plants late (by my standards) inside this year but they are doing AWESOME! I already have some true leaves on my baby tomatoes and there are gobs of them growing. I hate the thinning part of the growing season. What if I pick the wrong little plant to chop off? Ugh! I agonize over which plant to cut down.

I am still a homeschooling mom. I am actually AT a homeschool conference right now! I have been planning like crazy for this trip and am still a bit overwhelmed. Incredibly excited to be going to a conference would be an understatement. This conference is enormous too! I may need a GPS for the exhibit hall. So much great information and I will get to SEE bits and pieces of the curriculum I am picking out for next year. Feels weird to be thinking of "next year" already. I just got adjusted to working with THIS year. Next year should be further away than it is...

Half baked hobbies used to be my specialty but now I try to make time to get something done. I love sewing! I never used to. A sewing bug must have bit me at some point in time and now I am hooked. Sometimes I am resizing costumes for a little production one of my kids is a part of or resizing a tshirt! I also sell some cute little things in my Etsy Shop. My favorite thing to work on would be my upcycled aprons I make. Love them! I've made a few of those now. Have some more to make yet too!

So... There is more about me but this little bit of EVERYTHING about me but this is just a sneak peek. I don't want to scare everyone off too quickly with everything, ya know?

If you are part of the Ultimate Blog Hop be sure to leave me a quick comment below!

I'd be happy to hop on by and learn a bit of
EVERYTHING about you too!

Take care and thanks for stopping by!
Dee

I Stopped Blogging

Wednesday, February 13, 2013

I did... and I miss it. I thought that I was doing the right thing because I just have too much on my plate to really devote myself to blogging. I thought that I needed to move blogging to the side so that I could experience life more. I thought that blogging was hindering my involvement in my life. I was scared that my blog may get too personal and my real life and online life would cross paths.

Guess what... It's not what is "too much on my plate" that I need to move off. It's not hindering my experiencing my life, it's recording my life and helping me process my life. Now it could and probably did hinder my involvement in my life because I gave it a higher priority over everything else. Blogging should not be my higher priority. As for my two worlds colliding? I am sure it will. Someday. I will deal with it as I need to. It is probably not as big of a deal as I am making it out to be. I'm really not that important. This blog is my world and my life is my world. They've really already collided.

I am going to try this blogging thing again. I have so many things bouncing around in my head that need an avenue out. Writing is freeing to me. Once it's written down I feel like I can move on to something else. Recording things through writing strengthens my memory of the moment. That may just seem kooky to some but to me it makes sense. Guess that is what this blog is all about, isn't it?

Struggling Through the Week

Friday, August 17, 2012

friday favorite things | finding joy
With the week that I have had, this will be a challenge for me and a good thing to work on. This week has been exhausting. I have today and tomorrow yet to struggle through but let me see what favorite things I can dig up...

Walking Buddies
Even if she can't walk a straight line. It's nice to have someone to walk along with me.

Creating
I have a new found joy in sewing! I wish I had more time for it, but I love having whatever time I can find to finish a project. I learned a LOT making this apron!

Playing Outside
My kids LOVE to play outside. I am so glad for this.
They are usually in much better moods after having some fun outside.
Pretty Flowers
Yes, these are from our front window box but the kids meant well. I told them I didn't want anymore dandelions. Hehe... Ah well... These are much prettier!

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies
Originally, I did not have the time to make these cookies. Plans change(d).
A LOT.
I am glad that I had the time to make these cookies after all.
Very yummy!!

So there... I do have some favorite things from this week. That's nice! Good way to reflect on the week instead of the stress. Oh and yes, most of these are from my Instagram photos. I didn't record this week any other way. :)

Why I Blog

Monday, August 13, 2012

I think everyone should have this category on their blog:

Why do I continue to eek out a few moments of my day to write and read blog posts? Why am I addicted to the blogging world? Why do I feel so connected in an online community of people I have never even met and most likely won't?

I know I don't blog because I'm all that interesting and everyone just hangs on my every word. I blog to record things for myself. I blog to hash over my issues and remember the fun things. Writing is a major form of communication for me and writing helps me so much! I feel like I can process things better that are written out and I love to reread crazy things just to remember them forever.

So I'm putting together a collection of posts that I will lovingly tag as "Why I Blog" because they are my fav's and they are my why I continue to blog.

What about you? Mark your posts and leave me a comment!

Winning is a Gift

Monday, June 11, 2012

GameCabinetMy kids love to play games. My kids hate losing. Their attitudes make me not want to let them play board games together. We have our moments when we all sit down and have a BLAST with a board game. I treasure those moments. And then there are nights where the one losing ruins the game for everyone else.

So what do you do in moments like that? Well, I convinced this kiddo to quit the game. That wasn’t their top option, but I was at a loss for what else to do at the moment. I was tired. I did not feel like reaching a teaching moment. I feel bad that I didn’t right there though because I wonder if it would have turned out differently?

Even still I did get a moment later with this child. They were still mad about the game. This anger seeped over into everything else not going their way during bed time. I’m pretty sure these moments are from God and not from me. I talked with this child about how winning is a gift. Earlier that afternoon this specific child had hurried a gift together to give to someone. They were so happy to give that gift! I reminded them of that moment. Winning is the same way. Sometimes we all have to lose a game and give the gift of winning to someone else.

Not Much

Thursday, May 24, 2012

Today is a pretty laid back day. My Hubby just arrived home late yesterday and now we are all fighting with each other over who gets to spend time with him. Hehe... Okay, we are being nice. The older two are sitting at the kitchen table accomplishing TWO days of school while the little ones are happily taking a bike ride with Daddy. LOVE it! Quality time spent as well as QUIET time.

I'm changing my blogging style a bit. I am a non-consecutive blogger. Do you know what that is? Well, it's me. I do not blog in order of events. Some of this is because I never find time to blog an event as it happens but it's also because I am the blogger who holds anonymity close to heart. Blogging non-consecutive events helps me feel more like I am throwing everyone off my trail. (Or maybe I've just read/watched too many spy stories.) At any rate, I'm hoping to get a little more consecutive in my blogging because when I read other people's blogs I really like the way they read. I love keeping up with immediate updates of life. I want to be more like that.

It's not going to be easy... Someday everyone will have to know who I am because I am sooooooo stinkin' proud of my kids and I want to splatter their adorable little faces all over this blog with their fantastic success stories. But... I refrain. For awhile longer, at least. I will embrace this latest change of being a more consecutive blogger.

Baby steps out of the darkness of anonymity. Baby steps....

Could you let me know what you think about anonymous
blogging in the poll on my sidebar?
I'm interested in how people feel about this topic.

Real Life Blogging

Thursday, May 17, 2012

I have a ton of posts in draft form just waiting for me to tidy them up and click publish. Yet, I don't. I'm not sure why I don't on some of them either. Quirky blogging habit I suppose.

At any rate, I visit blogs a lot. Probably a lot more then I should. Like right now there's a sink of dishes looking at me, 3 kids need bags packed for the day and my garden outside is panting for water. What might you find me doing instead? Reading blogs. I love them! It's like reading a bunch of little books all at once. I love reading. When I come across a blog that is apologizing for not posting I think, "Preaching to the choir there sister (or brother)! Preaching to the choir!" We all have moments were we cannot find time to blog. You know what I say though?

STOP!

I give you full permission to not blog. Yes, you might miss out on something in the bloggy world. You have articles that need submitted and maybe it's your job. (Obviously if it is your job and lively hood you should disregard me right now and get back to writing something though... right? Hehehe....) But think about it. If you are not blogging, what are you most likely doing? Myself I am finishing up chores, projects or spending time with my man or the kids. Now... isn't that life? Isn't that better than sitting in front of the computer like i am right now instead of what I should be doing all day? PLUS... and this is the big-ie! Would you have something to blog about if you didn't live and take some time to NOT blog?

Hehe... That seems kind of like a catch-22 there doesn't it? I want to blog but if that's all I do, I don't live life so then I have nothing to blog about. EEP!

I already run in circles enough so I'm stating right here and now (and I hope I will remember this too... remind me if I don't...) I may not blog every week and that's okay. If I'm not blogging, you'll find me living life with my family. I may live life so much that I forget to tell my computer all about it. I will still have my blog around though for when I happen to pop in and write something about all this living I'm doing. I don't want to feel anymore guilt then I already do in my life so I'm going to try to stop being guilty about blogging.

Have a great day! Blogging or not! :)

Can God Help?

Thursday, May 10, 2012

I was eavesdropping. I do that sometimes. Do you have children? Well... they are the most fun to listen to in conversations with someone else. I was listening in on a conversation between my adorable (and growing up too quickly) Sweet Pea and my occasional house cleaner. (I'll admit it! I cannot keep everything in my house as clean as I would like without help. I highly recommend every mom get a bit of help every now and again. It's not as expensive as you would think!)

Anywho, here's how the conversation went:

Sweet Pea: "Mommy is going to make me clean my room."

Helper: "Ahwww... Are you going to?"

Sweet Pea: "I asked God for help, but He lives in my heart and I don't know how I am going to get Him out."

I couldn't eavesdrop anymore for all the laughter... From me!

I love my Sweet Pea!

The UNShopping Trip

Friday, May 04, 2012

An evening of bad errands was not a fun way to end the day. By bad, I mean BAD. I was only supposed to be 15 - 20 min tops in the store. My list was sour cream and lettuce for our tacos and an attempt at finding a coupon from a tear pad that I really, really, really wanted.

My first mistake was using the restroom. UGH! How disgusting!! If I hadn't had to go so bad, I would have walked in and walked right out of this restroom. Broken locks, no purse hook, yuky seats that I cleaned with my own handy wipe (I'm SO glad I saved those restaurant alcohol wipes in my purse!) and a hand dryer that didn't work. The only good thing about that restroom was leaving it.

UGH! UGH! UGH!

Second mistake was looking for the coupon FIRST. Duh! This blew my mind on my list. Yes, a two item list and looking for a coupon totally made me forget why I came to the store in the first place....

Oh look, a coupon! Now what was I saying?

Hehe... Just kidding! This time... Sometimes (I'm such a ditz) this would be reality!

So after I remember what my list was while in the back of the store, I decided to get the lettuce that was in the front of the store and a head of broccoli because that's needed with tacos too right? Ah well... we've been wanting broccoli for awhile now. And once I was at the front of the store I remembered that I needed sour cream which was in the back of the store. (See a problem here?! This is a pretty big store too!) ERGH! Then after locating the sour cream and headed to the check outs at the front of the store I come across an awesome clearance rack of cereal! Yes... CEREAL! How was I supposed to pass that up? So now I feel pretty smug that I remembered to bring in my coupon box (that I wouldn't have needed for lettuce or sour cream in the first place) and start digging for a coupon that I knew I had for this cereal. Where was it? Hmmm... I couldn't find it so I picked up two boxes of cereal because they were a favorite treat to have and I don't usually get them because they are so expensive.

Are you still reading this?! Wow! Thanks!!

The mistake that hurt my heart the most was not trusting my memory in what I have in coupons. See, I can't remember a two item grocery list, but I can remember what coupons I have. I can't remember where items are located in the store to plan a route, but I can remember what I have in my box of over 200+ coupons. I had a coupon for the boxes of cereal! It was $1.50 off of 3 and it was in my wallet. ARGH! Remember that I only picked up two? Can I throw myself against a wall now? This coupon would have made 3 boxes of cereal less than $1.20 each, which isn't a great bargain because I used to get cereal for less than $.99 each but now-a-days that just doesn't happen.

Soooooo...

My final mistake was my checkout lane. I had problems at the self check-out that I chose (shocking!) because by now I knew I'd been in that store for a crazy 40 minutes and I needed to get out. Pronto! I thought the self-checkout would be faster. But guess what... the clearance cereal would not scan correctly. (Hold me back!) I was about to loose it.

Long story short:
Awful bathroom trip, forgotten list, bad store route planning, lack of coupon usage on items not on my list in the first place and items not on my list not scanning properly = What was I thinking?!

I think I need help. Would a therapist even listen to me with this story? I think they'd be laughing me out of their office by the time I reached the cereal boxes.

OH and in case you care to know, I never did find that coupon in the store either. This is how NOT to shop, okay. Glad you learned something here. Moving on....

Have a great day!

New for 2012 Blog Design

Monday, April 30, 2012

Yay! It only took 3 months for me to get to this point. I won't tell you how many designs I worked through either just to get to here. I'm still not thrilled with somethings on here (like the dotted line around my profile and the background could use a bit pizzazz) but I wanted to change it so here it is!

Why Blog?

Tuesday, November 09, 2010

Is stressing over the lack of a blog post worth it? Shouldn’t I be living more and blog hopping less?

I blog to connect. I blog to remember. I blog to learn. I blog for fun!

I’ve been struggling with the whole, “why do you blog?” question lately and I think I’m starting to come to agreement with myself over why I blog. I don’t like stressing over my blogging because I don’t think that’s why I decided to do this. I’m tired of staying up late at night trying to link up with another site FIRST or cramming in a few half typed blog posts. I also don’t like that I get all bent out of shape if my blog post doesn’t have a picture with it! Hehe…

I am blogging for me. A record of all the goofy, crazy, fun and sentimental things that happen in my life going down into a record of my blog. I do struggle with the fact that I am not talking directly about my children, their ages, names, etc. but I seem to find ways around this and still enjoy recording the stories. I want the story of what is happening in life around me to go down in writing and be remembered. That is all really. I enjoy that. I feel a HUGE weight coming off my shoulders with this too. I sincerely hope that I REMEMBER this post later though when the whole… “oh, no! I don’t have a blog post for tomorrow!” comes back up again.

For now… I’m good! Oh and look… no picture! (GASP)

Be sure you have fun blogging and that you aren’t letting it take over your life for the wrong reasons.
