Emergency Surgery

Friday, July 02, 2010

Two words that you do NOT want to hear while you are driving across country on a family vacation. We made it out to Yellowstone without any real issues but on the way home… wow…

Our first issue was the RV overheating. Once we got that under control my Father ended up with a medical issue that could not be ignored. It’s an abscess and it was closing off his airway. So with all of that going on we took him and my Mom to the ER in Rapid City, South Dakota and our vacation extended by four days.

My Dad was admitted to the Hospital and had to have surgery. Everything happened so fast it was a whirlwind. We had to rent a vehicle to go up and down the mountain from our campsite to the Hospital. My Mom spent the night down there each night. We considered moving camp, but the KOA had a ton of activities available for 4 restless kiddos to keep busy. We also had two little dogs to take care of as well. This was becoming a Camping FAIL situation. We all were frantically calling home to get things taken care of there since we would not be home soon enough to care for it ourselves. Our dog was shuttled to my in-laws, garden left to it’s own will, cats and bunny stocked up on food, mail is left untouched, appointments shifted out, kid events/tryouts called and cancelled, etc etc etc. I felt like a revolving door on the phone!

Not all of it was a FAIL though. The beautiful Mt Rushmore KOA gave us a discount on the remainder of our “over staying” there. They also lent us a minivan for FREE because we had to keep running down to Rapid City to visit and delivery items to my parents. The RV place we rented our camper from gave us a huge discount on the RV we were renting so that we did not need to leave my parents in order to get it back in time. WOW! God was watching out for us during this emergency. I’m thankful!

We are finally headed home and should actually be there in a few hours from the time I am writing this! I cannot wait to sleep in our own bed and take a nice warm shower without spiders watching me. HEHEHE I can honestly say that I am not interested in visiting Mt Rushmore again anytime soon though. I think we drove past it at LEAST 10 times in all the days we were there. The most that I remember about this part of the trip is the stress from dropping off my parents at a Hospital, the relief of the surgery being over and being ecstatic when we started heading home.

My Dad is not out of the woods yet though. His neck is back to swelling again and we are hoofing it as fast as we can home to get him to a doctor appointment on time here. I hope that they will be able to resolve the rest of his issues without another surgery, but he may have to have one.

There is more to come about our RV trip soon! I did not have time to write much during our overstay around Mt Rushmore like I had hoped. I’ve now learned that a smaller space does not equal more free time to play. It does equal more difficulty in keeping kids entertained though. :)

Lost Credit Card = Lost Lunch!

Friday, June 18, 2010

I have TWO Friday Fails to fill you in on here, but one will have to wait for the more important one. We lost our credit card. The BIG one! The one we had intended to use for the gas on our trip first and get paid off (quickly) at home. What a MESS! I felt my stomach hit the floor when Hubbie informed me of this terrible news.

First off a tip: When traveling out of state, or anywhere for that matter, be sure to call the credit card company (if you intend to use one) and inform them of your traveling plans. See, if you don’t they will deny you usage of your card at the MOST inopportune time and you will have to call in to clear the account with lots of crazy security questions while your curious family sits in the boat of an RV wondering what happened to you. ERGH!

Second tip: Never ever, EVER leave your credit card at the gas station after said previous issue occurred and you were finally able to pay for the gas to leave. Always do a complete check around your vehicle and wallet before driving a half-a-day away to your next location and in the process leaving your credit card at the gas station. ERGH!

Finally: Suggest to the gas station that they mail your lost credit card on to your final destination (after covering the current gas station payment with cash when you find out your don’t have the credit card in hand) and call your credit card company letting them know of the oops and that you will call again to check on transactions once you get the credit card in hand.

I am pretty sure I lost my lunch in this whole ordeal.

The other fail? Are you really curious about hearing this one? Okay, this one wasn’t our fail really. See while driving down the road, minding our own business someone driving towards us in a construction zone THREW something out their window at us! Fortunately it did not hit us, but the car behind us may not have been so fortunate. So driver failure to them! Grrrr…

Honey, have you seen the keys?

Thursday, May 27, 2010

We recently added a storm door to the front of our house. After Hubbie installed the door he placed the keys on the kitchen counter and there they sat for a week or so. Of course, I went on a cleaning spree and decluttered the kitchen counter. Making note of the keys, I did NOT move them because I KNEW we would loose them if I did. Of course, they turn up missing.

“Honey, where are the front door keys?”

“What keys? I don’t have a front door key.” Is my simple response, because I don’t. I gave my house key to a friend for when we were out of town once and have YET to get another one made.

“Not the house key, the new storm door keys. They were right here on the counter.”

Uh-Oh…I knew I hadn’t moved them but we both knew I had cleaned up the kitchen. Great! OH and no, Hubbie did not blame me for losing them. I just thought I’d lost my mind, more. And so the search for the keys began. He finally did remember moving them himself and I remembered not moving them. I began to suspect maybe instead of Hubbie moving them a small child had wandered off with them. Where would I begin to search for two little keys in their toys?!

CrackerKeyFor three days we kept looking for those keys. Our all out search had failed us! But then I found them. Take a wild guess where they showed up and no, it was not the freezer. I found them under a box of crackers in the pantry! How or why he we would put them down in the pantry baffles me first but than to have them UNDER something. Ergh…

Where have you found misplaced keys in your house before? Would the place you found your keys be considered a Friday Fail like mine? Hehe… This should be interesting…

Sleep Deprived Grocery Shopping

Friday, April 30, 2010

Having a newborn at home is a great excuse for being a walking zombie Mom, but I am really frustrated that I forget everything as soon as I think it. I was given the option by dear, sweet Hubbie to go to the store myself and thought I'd ease the stress of this shopping trip by working on my list carefully, writing it out by the store and marking if I had a coupon. This grocery trip was going to be a piece of cake! It had to be quick too because I still only had 2 hours between each feeding and Baby was staying home. (Woowho!) Now if only I could find something to FIT into for my fist time in society again.

So there I was list in hand, coupons ready and car keys ta-boot. I make it to the store with only a few possible mishaps of not remembering how to drive. (I felt like a teenager getting behind the wheel for the first time. Tried to DRIVE out of the garage but needed to be in reverse. Ergh...) At the store, I load all my shopping goodies in the cart and glance over at the ad rack. Little warning bells go off in my head. What's wrong I wonder? I pull my cart over and grab the store ad. Something doesn't look right. Can you guess what it is? Oh yah... I threw OUT this ad at home. I planned my entire shopping trip on an ad that was a week old.

(Add silent screaming here!)

So what's a hormone high, panic stricken Momma to do with only 1-1/2 hrs left for shopping? I fought back the tears and headed into the fray of the store with my plan thrown out the window. (I will continue how it all turned out in the next post... tomorrow... hehe... Sorry to leave ya hanging, but that's as far as my fail went. The shopping trip turned out rather well.)

Has this happened to you???

PS-This all happened a month ago, I am just now getting time to type it up and post it. Hehe... Is that another fail? :)

Should There be this Many?

Friday, April 09, 2010

I'm not sure what happens in our pantry sometimes. I think it's actually a worm hole sucking everything it can into it. From time to time I have found a remote, phone, toy, book or any other miscellaneous item in there. Pantry's are supposed to be for food right?

Well guess what... I found food in abundance this time around. Three jars of it. THREE jars of partially used peanut butter. Are you kidding me?! Who opens another jar of peanut butter when there is already one in there? And no, they were not scattered willy-nilly about the pantry. All three jars were neatly stacked together on one side.

Wow... That's just sad to me!

What is the craziest thing you've found in your food pantry???
