Killing Weeds

I have been spending a lot of my “spare time” searching for ways to rid my garden of pesky weeds. Ha! Like I have spare time? At any rate… weeds… I want to kill them! (insert crazy-maniac-evil laugh here)

My husband has helped as much as he can with the weeds that infest my garden each year. The crazy thing is that the weeds aren’t IN the garden really. Horrible, terrible weeds that prick and poke grow AROUND the garden! ARGH! Mulching all around the garden has not helped as much as I had hoped that it would either. Soooo… I am on the hunt. How to better kill the weeds that attack me each year around the garden. Any ideas?

I have tried vinegar but I think I need a more acidic solution. Bleach did not seem to work well last year either. (Did I mention I lean towards the organic side of things? Don’t mention round-up… YUK!) I am going to try spreading borax around the house to prevent creepy crawlers from coming in more than I want but I am not sure it would help much with weeds. I am considering a little burn torch like the Red Dragon here, but fire makes me a bit nervous. Especially around flammable plants, mulch and raised beds. EEP! The idea of watching those nasty weeds wither from a touch of flame is strangely exhilarating though!

We don't have a garden, but a good brand of weed and feed usually keeps the weeds out of our lawn. Might seem silly to put it around your garden, but it's worth a try.
