Shift Struggle

Third shift, second shift or first shift. My husband has now worked every shift available. Originally he was on third shift and that was okay, but over time that can wear everyone down. He just wasn't getting enough sleep! The kids were hard pressed to keep the house quiet. So a chance came up to change his shift to something else and we were hesitant but ready.

I am stuck in second shift mode. I think I might like second shift best. I am usually a night owl so it seems to work well. Plus we get more time together as a family. If we weren't homeschoolers, that would totally not work.

Now to experience first shift. What a mess! I wish his schedule didn't need to keep changing. It might be one thing for only the schedule to change, but it is also his days off. The days off change is what was so hard to take this time. It seems to be working out ok. The kids are getting some great experience at helping Momma with dinner. For the past few nights one of the two older kids have actually MADE the dinner! Love those extra hands! They were completely shocked that they could make tacos (including the seasoning) and tortellini (including the sauce, but the cheese stuffed tortellini were store bought). I am glad to have some learning experiences but miss my husband a lot... but we will get through this. There may be hope that he is going back to second shift someday.

So what work shift is your family on?
Which would you prefer?

Hubby works a split shift. Some days he get off at 2:30 p.m. and some days he works until 9:30 p.m. I am 8 - 5 M-F so it's not too bad. The only thing I don't like is his days off are Thursday and Friday and mine are Saturday and Sunday. But I can take Friday's off if I want so I do that a lot.
