Lost in an Airplane Bathroom

I just can’t resist a good 5QFriday. Have you done these before? You really should… it’s a ton of fun!

Rules for Five Question Friday:
Copy and paste the questions to your blog post, answer them, then link your answers to My Little Life!

1. If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be?
The fact that I second guess myself and my decisions just WAY too much. I am my own worst enemy in most instances.

2. Write about a time when you got lost.
Ok, this is a good one. Are you ready? Make sure you are not sipping a drink during this little story. Hehehe…

Once, when I was around 7 or 8, I got lost in an airplane bathroom. Now I can look back on this and think it’s funny. At the time, I was terrified! Trapped! Lost!

See we were flying for the FIRST TIME ever! Headed to Florida to visit Disney. I was so excited! I had to go to the bathroom, because well… I was a kid and ALL kids have to check out EVERY bathroom. Sigh! At any rate, I still couldn’t read. (Long story… here’s the short: country school had only taught ABC’s and we moved. Crazy move threw me off and I did not try at school. Miserable!) So when I stepped into the tiny bathroom it reminded me of the camper bathroom we had in our pop-up. No problem there! The door closes and the light is on. That worked! It’s a different story when you go to exit.

The light turns off half way through unlatching the door to exit! It frightened me! I couldn’t SEE in the dark and even though I was holding on to the door handle when the light turned off, I could not figure out how to finish turning the handle to open the door. (Insert silent child like screams here!) So two tries of this proved to me that I did NOT want to mess with that handle. I saw all these words all over but I could not tell what they said (which caused more panic). And for some ODD reason there was a small red button by the sink. What in the world is a small red button in the bathroom for? Well… my child knowledge had taught me two things.
1. With Bugs Bunny red buttons in airplanes were air brakes. True thing! Air brakes! Got that? That could be helpful… only, I was stuck in the bathroom.
2. Wiley Coyote taught me red buttons would drop the floor out from under you. This is good when stuck, but not millions of miles in the sky! (Oh yah… I homeschool my kids now. Trust me? Bwahahahaha!)

Needless to say I did not press that curious red button. As it turns out, it may have been the lights or a help button for the stewardess. What did I know at that young age? I really don’t remember HOW I got out of the bathroom. I do remember the feeling of being utterly alone. Lost from my family. And panicked at the thought of not being found. I also remember a nice stewardess assisting me. I was tear stained and ushered back to my seat. My parents whispered to each other later, “She had been gone for awhile. I guess I didn’t think she could get in trouble on a plane. Where could she have gone!?” As they tried to keep their composure. Now they do no such thing. This story is accompanied with peals of laughter from them and tears for a different reason. Sigh... I believe I am my families comic relief. (snickers)

3. Camping or 5 star hotel?
Hmmm… This depends on my mood. I love the novelty of camping but sometimes you just can’t beat a hotel and all it’s amenities.

4. Have you donated blood?
Nope. Can’t. Won’t. I would be passed out or screaming at the sight of the needle. I still can’t handle needles! Even after having had four kids, needles freak. me. out.

5. Do you have a budget or do you 'fly by' most months?
Budget! Had a budget since we got married. I set it up and Hubbie didn’t get sucked in to the joys of a budget until we had been married over 4 years sadly. I am so glad I stuck with it and set on up in the first place! It’s bee a God thing. I call our budget “God’s Math”. Some how or another with our tithe everything seems to amazingly work out. I will be relying HEAVILY on this math with the upcoming Government shut down and what it will do to our pay. (sobs!)

Glad the shut down didn't happen. For now anyway. Next week is always another story, eh!?
