President’s Day Recap

Monday, February 21, 2011

FlagAs a homeschooling momma I often miss the holiday’s. I don’t think I’d remember them at all if it weren’t for the banks being closed. Hehe… And I really needed to make a deposit today too. SIGH! Gotta get more organized about the holiday’s.

At any rate, I thought today would be a good day to have an open discussion with the kids! I wanted to delve into the setup of our democratic government as a whole. So we talked about voting, Congress, Senate, veto, laws, the President and more. I pulled up my handy dandy search engine to research a bit more and we have some quick books that we read over too. (Is this a unit study?) The only thing I missed was worksheets. I should have prepared some word search or crossword puzzle at least. Ah well… can’t win ‘em all, right?

At the end of our lengthy discussion I wanted a recap. It’s always nice to hear back from the kiddos what they learned and also gives me a chance to clear up any misconceptions.

In response to my question, ”So, who is in charge of the United States of America?”

”God is in charge of everything.”

’Nuff said… My work here is done.

Take care!

Too cute! Love it! It's always amazing to see what kids pick up and take away from a conversation.

We ended up taking it off, since daddy had it off. We talked a little about some random facts about the Presidents though.
